Cross-promotion of common properties.

I suppose it's more overt than say Willy from Rock 101 showing up on Jon McComb's 'NW show on Fridays for a segment.

Used to happen a lot between News1130 and KISS (when it was on 96.9)

It has been common place here in Edmonton between CHED and CHQT ever since CHQT became iNews880.

Advertising a radio station you don't own was a hot topic in the early 1970s (and perhaps earlier) in Vancouver when one station tried to buy advertising on several others. It was, at best, short lived, so I don't remember the details anymore.

Then, of course, there was JB Sha(y)ne who liked to make references to other stations on the air. I'm sure he wasn't being bribed by any other station, but it did make good comedy material. From simple things like remarking about "another station" on CFUN when the temperature was 73 degrees to full blown comedy bits on CKLG all nights, imitating CKNW's Garden Show host.

The ultimate in that vein, however, was Lan Roberts on Seattle's KOL, playing a full length single of jingle singers doing KJR. Hard to believe that we are just days away from the 10th anniversary of Lan's death.

I can see how it would be common in other markets and with non-competing stations, but there is probably some overlap in markets, with each of these two stations trying to find a specific niche. I would think that advertising LG1043 would only work at reducing CISL's audience.

Starting to wonder if, given the morning show situation on 650, that's the point. Once Christmas is done, 650 gets out of 104.3's way.

All the advertising in the world won't help LG 104.3. When you have no variety and the same old 200 songs over and over everyday, why would anybody waste their time listening?

In the past year I've tried to listen on several occasions. Sorry guys, I'll stick with Sirius/XM where I can hear lots of variety and not the same old shit over and over. The jocks on Sirius have personality and they know the music they're playing (commercial free). And they have jingles that fit the era, not remakes of a lame 2009 package meant for a station playing new music.
Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

It seems clear that the ads for 104.3 foretell a new format for 650. Perhaps even a shut down. Odd, given the solid portfolio of advertisers to be heard this morning (during automated Christmas music).
