CKPM-FM off air?

Postby jon » Sat Apr 21, 2018 8:41 pm

There are reports to Dan Sys' Canadian Radio News Facebook page that CKPM-FM Port Moody has been off the air for at least a couple of days.

Can anyone confirm? Or know what's going on?

My first thought was just maybe their listener had died?
However, it's 245 overnight on Saturday (Sunday morning) and they are playing album cuts with no station identification whatsoever. The songs are so terrible there's no way to really tell what they are except to describe them as being hillbilly scratchy recordings. One song My Name The Song app on my phone could identify was one called Steel Rails. Another was Traditional cowboy song' Goodbye Old Paint. It's almost as if they're trying to run the station into the ground...lol

What you heard "Pictures For Your Ears" was a pirate station from somewhere in Whatcom County that also operates on 98.7.These guys have been on & off the air for years playing hillbilly music with no ID's or any kind of spoken word content. When it's on the air the signal blasts into Aldergrove usually burying CKPM. At the moment 98.7 out here is clear, no CKPM and no hillbillies, but I did notice that the hillbillies were on the air a few days ago.

That's SO sad.
IF this is final, kudos to Mr. McBride for his efforts.

Another station that should have never been licensed. All they had to do was look at McBride's track record.

This station has been off air for a few days now. Is it gone for good after many temporary station signal shut downs over the years?

Power surge has damaged some equipment. We are off the air.

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

I was in Port Moody today and still no sign of life at 98.7. I talked with a few people at Rocky Point and none had ever listened to or were even aware of CKPM's existance.

On their website, I noticed they were supposed to be doing a remote from some Dragon Boat races last weekend. It appears that remote never happened, and was likely missed by none.

Didn't these bozos also screw up a remote/simulcast of fireworks a few years ago?

Pretty sad state of affairs when you're supposedly the voice of a small community and nobody's even aware of your existance.

Off the air since April 23rd with their "trained professionals working as fast as they can to get the tunes back to our ears", anybody know anything?

Somebody just sent me a funny picture from the 98.7 page and their Twitter account seems to have many recent entries over the past few days ...

What a waste.

I went through Port Moody on the Skytrain yesterday. Not sure which of the high rises at Newport Village had the CKPM antenna on the roof, but there was nothing that resembled an antenna on any of them that I could see. I also wonder how long the CRTC will allow an active license to be off the air before they step in?

Dan, it's supposed to be on Ungless Way at Newport Drive which is basically right at the entrance to Eagle Ridge Hospital.
I've never noticed any highly trained technicians working feverishly up there.

Like the antena, nobody even knew the radio station was in the community.
Too bad as Rod McBeth put his heart into the morning show.

As of today, the antenna for CKPM at the Sentinel highrise tower in Port Moody is still there. But it's not been broadcasting for close to a month. I've not seen much of any response with this station going off the air.

You just MIGHT hear some sort of ethnic programming coming from that tower.
Apparently CKPM's licence was co-owned with 2 silent South Asian partners?

Now that the 'better known' partner is travelling out on the road with his singing daughter...

Sorry about saying that the antenna was gone. Guess I should go for an eye exam.

If CKPM were to become ethnic, Korean would make the most sense based on the population within their prime coverage area.
