Sarah MacDonald story aired on CTV News Channel on 1-11-25

Postby BCTVFan » Mon Jan 13, 2025 1:47 am

On Saturday, January 11th, 2025, I was viewing CTV News Channel (252 - Rogers/Vancouver) and they were airing a story reported by Sarah MacDonald.

Later that same evening, she anchored Global National (at 5:30pm PT, recorded earlier in the afternoon) and Global (BC) News at 6

I thought she had been with Global BC (Since September 2018).... so was the CTV News clip played in error or can a journalist be on the two networks at once?

Is this a common thing?

Not common, but certainly not unheard of. I also don't think somebody goofed up. My guess is the station was doing a historical piece. For example, a suspect being arrested in a 20-year-old murder case. Some stations might play the video, which would include the reporter's dialogue. With the amount of transitioning between media outlets, it's actually surprising it doesn't happen more. Most companies also make it clear, when you leave, any interviews, audio, etc. are copyrighted and belong to them, which is entirely fair. They won't object if you put it on your demo reel, but don't you dare try to use it when you move over to the competition. Be curious, though, if someone could shed some light on the story. Sarah probably didn't even know it ran.

I think many folks here would be interested in the how and why.
I enjoy Sarah's work. Apart from reading the prompter, she interacts with her on-air partners professionally. There is no uncomfortable stumbling around, as happens frequently with other anchors in those situations. I'd like to see more of her.

Sorry...not one of my favourites. Does she have asthma? All that huge inhaling of breath.

LOL So, if television presenters DON'T stumble and bumble (or DON'T breath heavily), they are deemed as GOOD, in your eyes !

What about journalistic acumen. Are they really journalists, asking the tough questions, or are they lobbing creampuff questions, fluff, and or just another pretty face !

That aside, the quality of commentary on this site has devolved into sheer idiocy, in my view.

You can even print this shit out and line your bird cage or cat box with it, OR print it out and eat it with ketchup,

Ohh, it's SO YUMMY ! (NOT)

Okay, are you part of the idiocy? You’re commenting as well. Careful with painting all with the same brush.

And did anyone other than me catch Grace Ke on Global last night pronouncing “another” as in ailment instead of “another” as in apple?
What the hell? A veteran reporter can’t pronounce the word another? PATHETIC!
Today’s broadcasters are constantly using “A” instead of “a” and “thee” instead of “the”.
Just awful lack of talent these days.
I complained to Global via email last night. Waiting on a response.

Good luck trying to get a response from Global. I have written many notes to the General Manager/News Director (one person) and have yet to hear back.
Perhaps part of the problem with our issues regarding the quality of 'performers' these days comes from the fact there is no News Director as in years past. No one to spend the time tuning up (yelling at) the reporters and anchors. You can't do a good job in either position given the workload. Corporate broadcasters should spend more time considering who to lay off or shift to another position. Don't make snap decisions because your numbers will fall if you sluff it off.
I am also soured by the people on here who have never been on the air in any capacity but feel free to denigrate those who are or have been in the industry. You have to walk a mile in their shoes first.

Well, hotshot, I actually "work" in the industry (30 plus years) and am a long time trainer and mentor of local broadcast journalists, deskers, and deejays, as well. Who do you think knows more? A whiner like you who doesn't work in the industry or someone like me, trying to make a difference.

May I suggest, if you are not part of the solution, then, you are, indeed, part of the problem !

You are a pompous, moronic idiot. How’s that for a start? To correct your false statement, I worked for years as a radio and TV broadcaster. As a ‘trainer’ you’ve proven how pathetic you are. The Sarah MacDonald and Grace Ke comments are 100% legitimate.

So, why are they legitimate, hot shot? ? Because you say so??? :yahoo: You say that people are "bad," but never say why. It's not for me to "prove," anything, actually.

However, you have only "proven" that you are a jackass and a troll. We can even add loser to that, as well.

"I worked for years as a radio and TV broadcaster."

Oh yeah, sure. Where did you work ? Who would hire a f*cking loser like you ! I certainly wouldn't.

My promise to thehighwayman: just one more from me.
I stand by my Ke and MacDonald comments. I’ve never said they were “bad”, re-read it stupid!
I’ve worked various markets including Vancouver. Morons like you I wouldn’t give details.
And I think this website should reprimand or ban people like you for using foul language.
Lastly, a “trainer” like you should know your sentence with “and” and “as well” is redundant.

Hey Smitty - No ego problem in your family! Can't say as I've ever run into anybody you supposedly trained. Many do recall what a great day it was when they tossed your useless ass out the door on Lakeshore.

How's the highly successful WKRP in West Kelowna? :sign5:

It does very well, thanks for asking. For people like you who don't bath, of course, you would never be invited to our events, as you f*cking stank like a pig when I did meet you.

Take a bath, buddy ! LOL

Meanwhile, Pete Radio, female broadcasters seem to be your pet peeve, as you are always bitching and griping about females. I guess that you never got "laid" when you were a teen ? That's b/c you're a little weenie... :yahoo:

I think that you are a woman hater and a liar about where you worked. Maybe we should look into who you worked for and whether others you worked with thought you were an anti-female, a hole and loser, as well.

Waxing the good ole' days about Webster ??? means you are an old, bitter, dinosaur hack broadcaster with no future and probably, no life, either.
