I haven't really checked the radio dial yet, but I'm not aware of anyone in Vancouver playing all Christmas yet.

I don't know how people in retail can handle working from November until Christmas with that steady stream of Christmas music evryday they work.

I think anyone who works in retail at Christmas needs to be heavily medicated.

I don't mean to digress too far....but how can retail survive listening to the pounding beat of some of today's music every day. I wonder sometimes if the music is on for those working in the store and not for customers. Getting old? yes I am....but ...surely that music can turn others away too.....and some of these stores aren't the hip outlets for the younger crowd either.

[digressing even further]
John, I'm almost as old as you and I'm listening to rave music and have been since my 48th birthday. It does kinda feel weird to attend a rave and be the only one older than 30 and it's even weirder to get compliments from 20 year olds about my taste in music.
[/end of digression]
About 20 years ago, I stopped going to all shopping malls from November to December 26th as I can't stand the use of Christmas music as a means to loosen my grip on my money. Luckily, I've been able to find a few grocery stores that don't play guilt music this time of year or I'd starve.

For me, this feeling started during my days at CKPG where I had one massive fight with the sales manager who wanted to start pumping out Christmas tunes in early November for the purposes of getting his retailers in the spirit of buying more ads.

The whole meaning of Christmas has gone down the toilet thanks to retail....the mall decorations seem to be up earlier every year...why don't the malls just leave them up...save a lot of time and money. And old Santa could have a full-time job away from the frozen north too.

Plus, is the greater portion of the audience really into "Chri - ist... da Lord"....?

Besides, the cable-TV channel is pumping it out.

Let me not be misunderstood ( is that a double negative? )

I was speaking to a local Christian who agreed with me that Christians should abandon
the festive season and refuse to do anything other than regular Sunday services.

The should declare a week in November or a week in January - a Christian holy week and hopefully the merchant class won't wreck it with more sales.

The whole meaning of Christmas - the birth of baby Jesus, love and peace on earth, the family has been usurped by the sales, the 24/7 music, the catalogs since July etc.

Ba humbug - I wish it were cancelled.

But I don't run the world.. But I like raverocks idea - no shopping for a month before Christmas might make a dent.

I love people who make statements like that.

I'll bet you're the first in line to grab a Christmas bonus from your employer though.

Not according to an increasing bulk of people who insist it's TOO CHRISTIAN and therefore Christmas scenes, greetings of "Merry Christmas", etc. should be abolished.

Some say it's too commercial. Others say it's too religious. In other words, people just like complaining about something.
