Here is a Calgary picture from more recent times that Radiofan might recognize:

In the CJOC series, the picture of the board and turntables shows the same equipment in use when I started there in '67!
All they'd done is turn the set-up a quarter turn so it faced into that small studio and add an overhead cabinet over the script board to hold two RCA Cart Machines and two Ampex 350 tape machines.

It will take a while to wade through this site. Anything with 316 hits on Radio, gets my interest.

Here is an interesting picture of one of the radio-equipped CNR cars from 1930:

Just found four interesting pictures by searching under CKXL's previous call letters: CJCJ.

Also get lots of interesting php error messages:
Notice: Undefined offset: 4 in /home/pub/imagescanada/r1-115-e.php on line 263
What 12 year old put this site together?

Here is an interesting CJOC billboard, just after the frequency change from 1060 to 1220 KHz in 1947, when power was also increased from 1000 to 5000 watts.

Image

Reading between the lines, it appears that CJOC was bribed with a power increase by the CBC (as Regulator), to free up 1060 for CFCN Calgary. In turn, the CBC was forcing CFCN to give up 1010 so that the CBC could have it for a 50KW station that would, at least in theory, serve all of Alberta from Lacombe.
