CIAT Cat Country 98 flips to Classic Hits CKHD

Postby radiofan » Tue Dec 26, 2023 3:42 pm

On Boxing Day morning, Steve Huber's Cat Country 98 (CIAT) in Assiniboia flipped to Classic Hits, "98 FM CKHD Hit Radio".

The first song on the new CKHD was The Rolling Stones "Start Me Up"

Golden West recently flipped their Country AM stations to FM and their Classic Hits stations from FM to AM.

Southern Saskatchewan once again has Classic Hits in Stereo on FM.

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

CKHD Hit Radio has caught the attention of Sean Ross, who contributes weekly to radioINSIGHT with his Ross On Radio newsletters. Sean is one of the top and respected radio consultants in the US and a leading music researcher/writer regarding radio broadcasting.

He has written about CKHD a few times since the format change and it appears he does like the station and what they are doing. This week, in his "First Listens" CKHD was prominent, and the station had a few comments from readers who listened on line..https://radioinsight.com/blogs/263156/t ... s-of-2024/

I wonder how much CKHD paid for those JAM jingles? It is worth tuning in just to hear the Earl Mann-voiced top hour ID rolling into the classic "Hitradio" jingle. Too bad it isn't on Alexa yet.

I have found some real gems thanks to Ross on Radio, most notably KDRI ("The Drive") Tucson, one of the few Oldies/Classic Hits stations with live-and-local personalities in almost all dayparts.
