CRN - Cabin Radio Yellowknife Refiles Application

Postby Dan Sys » Thu Mar 14, 2024 8:46 am

Internet station CABIN RADIO in Yellowknife has refiled its application to launch on 93.9 with 540 watts. Their initial application was rejected by the CRTC who stated that the Yellowknife market could not sustain another commercial radio station. The outcry from the public and politicians over this decision was enormous and it now appears that the CRTC is having second thoughts by issuing "a call for applications" for the Yellowknife market. No details on programming have been made available yet, but their existing internet station broadcasts an Eclectic mix of Rock, Classic Hits, Folk, Jazz, etc. Call letters will be CJFC.

That is the "song" that most commercial radio stations play whenever they want to block a low powered radio station from appearing in their market. And the CRTC more or less goes along with their nonsense ? However, the citizens of Canada are getting tired of this crap.

The CRTC (and the Canadian government) is increasingly becoming irrelevant, as the balance of power shifts from terrestrial radio to internet and podcast radio. You can legislate the sh*t out of people, like Bill C-11, but what foreign multinationals will do is punish ordinary Canadians by blocking us with severe content restrictions.

Therefore, to compensate for their impotence, the CRTC punishes successful internet stations who are stealing the audience (and their advertising dollars) from commercial stations.

The commercial station often plays the financial card, such as: "We can't afford to make money, or we are broke, therefore, applicant XYZ will take away our money (sic)."

(Answer: no, the real reason your station can't make money is because you are f*cking incompetant and or you simply charge too much money for your ads?)

Meanwhile, while playing the broke card, don't forget to pay your shareholders the maximum dividend and pay top brass millions per year, too, at the expense of the front line deejay and newsperson who generally gets sweet f all, in terms of pay.

Don't stop there. Take advantage of taxpayer funded, government handouts and pay your top executives, royally, and then, cut back and fire all of the news department and deejays and replace your most experienced veterans with cheaper, hired help and that way, you can save even more money and plow even more profits into your coffers !

Did I mention keep playing the "broke" card ?
