Frank Thompson (KJR & CKLG) passes at 85

Postby radiofan » Tue Aug 07, 2012 2:14 pm

Former Seattle and Vancouver newsman Frank Thompson died Saturday at age 85. He worked at CJVI Victoria in the early 1950s before heading to California in 1953. He was news director at KJR Seattle from 1969-74 and read news at CKLG Vancouver after leaving KJR. At the time of his death Frank was living in South Surrey.

Thanks to Gord Lansdell at Northwest Broadcasters for this item.
Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

That is so sad to hear. I worked with Frank at CKLG and for a neophyte like me to be a part of that lineup with Frank and Dan Williamson, Doc Harris, Gord Robson and the like was pretty overwhelming.
Doing a lot of all-night shows, I saw and spent a lot of time with Frank as he was in the buliding early for the morning news run. He was a wonderful man with an incredible sense of humour, surpassed only by his immense talent.
RIP Frank. Thanks for making a kid feel like a part of the team.

Frank Thompson at the Bayshore Inn circa 1975

In the picture George Wilson and a very young "Randy Andy" (Duke of York) on a regal visit. I think I took this picture.
The one of me (not shown) was taken by Sue. ( I will remember her name ten seconds after I post this.)

Sue: 'NW, George: CBC, Frank: 'LG and myself 'OR

Sue Stern - I knew it.

I liked Frank - not complicated. Friendly and helpful.
