Veteran Newsman Hal Rodd Passes

Postby radiofan » Mon Feb 25, 2013 9:47 pm

News and baseball play-by-play announcer Hal Rodd has died at age 91 in Vancouver this past weekend.

He read news and voiced Vancouver Capilanos baseball at CKMO Vancouver during the 1940s and '50s. His news career took him to CFUN Vancouver in the 1950s, CKNW in the 1960s and CJOR in the 1970s.

He was inducted into the Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club Broadcast & Journalism Hall of Fame in 2011.

Thanks to Gord Lansdell at Northwest Broadcasters for the information.
Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

I remember him from the basement of the Grosvenor. A very decent man. RIP.

Although not mentioned in the description of "CFUN's Last Day" (well, the first one, on June 30th, 1969), Hal Rodd is introduced at 8:52 into the aircheck. But, unfortunately, his voice was "scoped" out of the aircheck back in 1969.

Point being: he was CFUN's "Man at the Track" in mid-1969. A fact I haven't seen mentioned elsewhere.

I can see the face

I can hear the voice

I sat next to him

He didn't try to add anything to his voice. Crisp and clear.

See you later Hal

Four or more have passed on to the great radio station in the sky
