From TSN...

Bill Stephenson, a legendary sportscaster who delivered sports news and play-by-play on Canadian radio and television for more than five decades, has passed away. He was 85.

Born in Elrose, Saskatchewan, Stephenson started his 53-year career at CJAV in Port Alberni in 1948 and eventually made his way to Vancouver as a sportscaster at CKWX, covering events like the British Empire Games and later working as the play-by-play voice for the B.C. Lions and the Vancouver Mounties baseball club.

Here are some more details of Bill's career from Broadcast Dialogue:

SIGN-OFFS: Bill Stephenson, 85, in the Greater Toronto Area. He underwent a serious operation in 2006
after suffering a stroke and never fully recovered. Stephenson was the sports director at CFRB Toronto
during the station’s halcyon days from the ‘60s through the ‘90s, and known as one of the
most outspoken and respected Canadian sports commentators. He is also a member of the
CAB’s Canadian Broadcast Hall of Fame. His early days in broadcasting saw Stephenson get
his start at CJAV Port Alberni, then he had moves to CKWX Vancouver and CKDA Victoria
(not necessarily in that order)...
