Dick Diespecker's Radio World column in the Province of December 22, 1951 has this little biography. Bob died in 2007. As you know, he was snared by 'NW in 1955.

The fellow who presides over Bob's Inn for two hour from 7 to 9 each morning on CKWX is also quite a man with the moppets. His name is Bob Hutton and he arrived in this world 31 years ago in San Francisco.
He started his radio career at CFJC, Kamloops, in 1940, and moved to the coast and CKWX in 1945. In addition to his Bob's Inn chore, he is mainly concerned with youngsters' programs. He emcees the Junior Radio Theatre every day and also the famous Good Deed Club and Safety Club of the Air.
Both these features, sponsored by large firms, serve a double purpose, teaching children the elements of traffic safety and good works.
Hutton's hobby is cartooning the wood and collecting string. He has been asking listeners to send him string for a long time. At the present time he has a ball of string over a foot in diameter. He has never disclosed what he is going to do with it.
Perhaps he is like the old lady in New York, one of two recluse sisters who, after they were dead, were found to be extremely wealthy though they literally starved to death. But among their many strange possessions was found a box labeled: "String too short for use."

The page also has ads for CKNW, CJOR and CKWX (CKMO was probably too cheap to buy space). The 'NW ad, with a drawing of the Top Dog, has the caption:

Top Dog Says: "TREES . . . (sigh) . . . my favorite song! Johnny Johnson, the ALL NIGHT RECORD MAN, will play your requests too, after 1:00 a.m.

The 'WX ad reads:
