Prominent Figures of Radio Staff New Broadcast Station
Radio Station CKLG may be British Columbia?s newest station, but it is staffed with some of the most widely-experienced men in the business.
Bob Bowman, manager of the new North Vancouver station, has a background second to none in the radio world.
A McGill graduation, Mr. Bowman parlayed a newspaper background into top radio jobs in England from 1934 on, when he was an original editor of BBC?s Empire news service.
In 1937, Mr. Bowman returned to Canada to help with establishment of CBC. He was director of special events until 1943.
From 1943 until 1946 Mr. Bowman was Southam Press correspondent on Washington. Later he managed CKMO here and CFBC in Saint John.
Mr. Bowman became manager of CKLG in July last year.
Another radio veteran is Program Manager Rudy Hartman, who was announcing at CJAT in Trail back in 1939. A North Vancouver resident, Rudy also worked at CJVI in Victoria.
Sports Editor Al Pollard needs no introduction to B.C. gridiron enthusiasts. He?s best remembered for his sterling backfield work with B.C. Lions. A West Pointer, Al is now residing in Vancouver.
Glen Jamieson, who functions as an announcer-operator, has a background that includes radio stations CKMO and CKOV in Prince George.
Chuck Baxter, operator-announcer, is an Alberta man who formerly worked at CKPG in Prince George.
Announcer John Anthony, who was emoting for CBC at the tender age of 16, has a background that includes free-lance acting with CBC and he also worked at CKEY and on various American networks.
Hal Francis, announcer-salesman, is from Quebec City. He worked in radio stations in Regina, Saskatoon, Hamilton and Vancouver.
Operator-announcer Pete Kosick is a Saskatchewan man and formerly with CKNW.
News editor is John Sharpe, formerly chief announcer at CFJC in Kamloops. Later he became staff announcer at CKWX and then editor-announcer. He lives in North Vancouver.
Commercial production manager is Jim Thom.
