And according to a UN report, radio still rules the world when it comes to communications.

A number of different short-wave broadcasters have special programming throughout the day & evening. As to be expected, there's lots pirate radio activity this late afternoon on the "43 meter band". Better living with radio!!

I sometimes find it surprising to read, even today, that so many leaders of factions attempting to overthrow the current government in countries worldwide credit their own pirate radio station as a key success factor. And virtually every adult that they want to reach has a radio.

In this respect, things have not changed that much since World War II when Radio was such a powerful communications tool.

I think most radio-people would agree: We almost never have the conversation about the innate power of radio - its ability or perhaps better-stated as it potential to impact on the minds and emotions of listeners.

The industry management and the line staff have never made this a topic of discussion - never mind research and developement.

As a result, we can all be accused of taking the medium for granted and for debasing it along the way to a lowest common denominator. It's not as if, over the decades, we have not had every opportunity.

Instead, we got caught up in tunes and talkers - never realising the mammoth communications and influence tool to which we all had access.

This circumstance is unlikely to change.
