Thor has left the building

Thor has left the building

Postby radiofan » Wed Oct 12, 2011 6:43 pm

The not so Mighty Thor is no longer with us. Like most people, I can tolerate some BS from people, but when it's a non-stop fest of name calling and slamming other people for no apparent reason,
then it's time to go. In several years of posting, there was little or nothing that had anything to do with radio.

In the past 24 hours it's become quite apparent that I'm not alone with my thoughts. I've received numerous emails and PMs from members requesting, some demanding, that Thor be tossed.

Here's a sample of an email that sums up what most were saying ...

If I may, I have to say that every single time this guy chimes in, it seems to turn into a name calling contest and there is sure to be controversy and infighting on the board. This actually takes away from my enjoyment of the Radiowest forums and it gets very tiring very quickly. I just thought I'd drop you a line and let you know that as a regular reader and occasional contributor to your website, I get very annoyed when he posts and when I see his name pop up anywhere it's almost a guarantee he's getting into it with others or he's starting something.

We wish Mr. Thor all the best in his future endeavors.

I certainly hope that I haven't crossed the line in this recent rant. I enjoy this board far too much to cause undue concern. Yes, I have threatened to depart many times, partly because of that guy's rants against me, etc. With my 73th birthday coming up at the end of this month, you may forgive me for my rants about the old days. Suffice it to say, times have changed. And, in this regard, let me digress for a moment.

I will admit one thing.....today, I'd never make it if I were to try to emulate those who ply their trade in sports. Be it, Team 1040...or maybe even WX1130. Team 1040 is going at 100 kph......top speed on our highway of radio sports. In the days of Davidson, McConnell, Raible, Sykes et al.....we had time in our sportscasts to dwell on the moment. Not so now...time is of the essence.....time to go here, time to go there....and on it goes. I like to give credit when it's due....BMac, Rintoul, The Moj.Rick Ball,...Shorty et al.......you have the reins and you are going for gold. I am the listener now, you are the entertainers, keep
us entertained, just as the teams you report on do.

Cheers

Happy birthday John, and preferably, I'll take the good ol' days of radio over the modern-day insanity that is radio today. :occasion5:

Sorry I missed Mr. Sykes B'Day - Happy Happy, John and many more.

Re:
Thor.

Thanks for getting rid of the "negative waves, man".

He is obviously a really angry dude and his invective and negative shots at people were totally unfounded.

He really got my dander up a few times.

RF - thanks. Hope you are well.

I know this is not part of the current thread...no one has missed my birthday....I did say it was near the end of the month.
I'll expect condolences upon reaching number 73 on the 28th. And, of course, will accept any graft or donations to my cause at that time too.

As one ex-CKNW host once or a few times said - Get on with it!

A lot of things go whoosh (in doggy talk that would be whoose) right over your head.

Thanks for removing my complimentary post from your Re-elect Top Doggy facebook page.

The claws are out now.
