:occasion4: Happy 75th to Vancouver's Favorite Teen-Ager, Red Robinson! :occasion5:

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

The nicest guy in the business - and has been a pleasure to call him a friend for over 30 years. I thought Global did a great job with the Birthday surprise....

Congratulations to a TRUE LEGEND, Red.

You have the energy and drive of a guy half your age.

The man IS Vancouver Radio. Always was and always will be.

Yes, I echo the birthday greetings.

But it does get me thinking about how much things have changed in terms of how we perceive age since the 1960s. Then, Jackie Gleason celebrated his 50th birthday on live TV, clearly feeling that his life was pretty much over, having hit the Half Century mark. At home, I was taught that people begin dying of "Old Age" at 55, though some did live longer. But 55 was the dividing line at the time between dying of a disease or condition, or dying of "Old Age", just wearing out, so to speak. Living to 70 was considered a real success story.

Today, a lady I've known for years will be celebrating her 100th birthday in the next day or two, at a care facility in Camrose. A retired Edmonton broadcaster just had her 102nd birthday and is still spry, at least verbally. And Save-On Foods has a place for 100th Birthday cards that is well stocked.

So, why wouldn't we have broadcasters like Red Robinson and Bryan Hall still working at 75?
