Something to think about

As many of you know (maybe 2 or 3), I got my radio start in the Montreal area. As much as I lurk these days on this site, I also do on the Montreal radio site. A few weeks ago, I tipped off our exalted administrator about an annual dinner that the Montreal group holds.....suggesting something could or should be done out here. Surely, Vancouver radio beats the poop out of Montreal radio.....even the Montreal group figures their market is, errr, like poop too.

I am cutting and pasting the end result of their annual dinner.....even some stations chipped in with donations. How about it Vancouver?

Here the report from Sheldon Harvey the Montreal administrator.

We had an excellent turnout of 24 people at the group Christmas dinner
this evening at Buffet La Stanza in St. Laurent. It was really great
to see everyone again and to have our annual tradition continue.

On behalf of everyone in the group I would like to thank the folks at Q-
92, 940 Montreal, The Team 990 and CKRK-K-103 for their generous
donations of gifts for the door prizes this year. Your continued
support is always appreciated.

Sheldon

Couldn't we do better than this? I leave the idea with you for further discussion.

The Edmonton Broadcasters Club has nearly 300 members, and is open to anyone who was in broadcasting (radio or television, in any role) at least 20 years ago. They have a luncheon twice annually, in the Spring and Fall. Smallest attendance to date was over 50.

I'd have to check, but believe they have been running for 10 years now.

Their success makes them a worthwhile model to learn from, if you are serious about doing something elsewhere in Canada.
