A Tuesday morning in early July 1976, ahead of the start of the annual Calgary Stampede and its parade which would follow that Friday. Russ Tyson is hosting the 1140 CKXL morning show. Russ got his start in radio in his hometown of Trail, BC at 610 CJAT. Before joining CKXL, he spent time at CJME Regina, CHAM Hamilton and CFUN Vancouver.
He left CKXL to join competitor 1060 CFCN in September 1976, initially as host of the evening show before moving to the afternoon show. He would go on to serve as CFCN Radio's music director and assistant program director until leaving in 1981 for Northern Productions. Russ would then spend many years on air and in programming in Saskatoon, Thunder Bay and Winnipeg.

J. Paul Huddleston, formerly of KHJ Los Angeles, at the time was CKXL's news director and Moffat Communications' news consultant. Huddleston would go on to WBCS Milwaukee, Wisconsin and WOAI San Antonio, Texas. He died in 1993.

During his tenure as CKXL's news director, J. Paul offered Margaret Trudeau wife of Canada's Prime Minister, Pierre Trudeau, a job with the Calgary radio station.
