Longtime Lethbridge and Calgary broadcaster Wayne Barry passed away earlier this week.

From the Radio West archives, a memory from Aircheck Factory’s “Canada ’79” ...
it’s Wayne Barry on 1090 CHEC Lethbridge with news from Bruce Mitchell.

R.I.P. Wayne. Condolences to your family and friends.
Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

Wow, that was unexpected!
I had an email from Wayne not long ago, updating me on what he'd been doing.
He was back in Lethbridge at the time.
I'd worked with Wayne both at CKOV in Kelowna and at CJOC in Lethbridge.
His dad and my dad were friends, both having been in the military.
He used Wayne Barry as his air name, his last name was Heinrich.
Sad news.
My condolences to his many friends and family.

Barry was his middle name.

The obit. does not mention his Radio career, but it does mention a Celebration of Life ceremony yesterday afternoon. Wayne died May 24th; there is no mention of his age. Sad to read that two of his four daughters have already passed away:

I met Wayne in 1981, when he was hired as PD at CKRD in Red Deer. I was ND at the time for both radio and t.v. It is so sad to watch this happening with increasing frequency. Rest in peace Wayne.
