On January 6, 1979 Vancouver's CKLG-FM became CFOX. From that cold Saturday 29 years ago, here's the end of CKLG-FM and the launch of CFOX.

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

I missed the end of CHRX but was shocked on Monday AM when I tuned in and the station was now playing gospel music. I damn near drove off the road when I heard the 6AM news being read by a guy named Brian Lord.

Was that name his job security?

Interesting to hear the LG-FM announcers listed. Larry Bauder was a surprise, as I remember him doing all nights when CFUN changed to CKVN. Presume Larry's tenure on LG-FM began after April 1974 when I left Vancouver.

Speaking of CKVN, they also got a mention here, too.

No, Sparky. In fact, Brian left not long afterward. Brian had done the morning news at CHRX and stayed to do the news on the new station. Afternoon news was dumped altogether. The dumped newsreader said at the time "I guess they only want The Good News."

Brian's a great guy and enjoying retirement in southeast Asia, I understand.
