I am saddened to learn Calgary TV News legend Darrel Janz has died. He was 83. Darrel was a friend and mentor, one of my journalism instructors at SAIT in 1978. He taught me a lot, and we had fun. I always enjoyed him regaling us with the many stories from his career, especially the day his chopper went down in the St. Lawrence, while he was covering a Hydro Quebec strike in Montreal. Anyone who knew Darrel has probably heard that one! Darrel was a kind man and a true pro who helped many people like me launch their newsroom careers. I am grateful to have known him. RIP.
