KOOL FM IN CALGARY BECOMES TODAY RADIO

The Jim Pattison Broadcast group has flipped KOOL FM (CKCE 101.5) in Calgary to TODAY RADIO. The format remains Hot AC, perhaps with a bit more emphasis on rock oriented Classic Hits judging by their playlist.
From the TODAY RADIO Facebook page:

Hey friend! You’re a part of something pretty big... we’ve evolved and now we’re TODAY RADIO! Yesterday was KooL... but now - it’s all about TODAY! More music, more conversation & more FUN! All of your favourite hosts are here to have awesome conversations with, and we’re adding a couple of new faces, Crash and Mars!
Welcome to the evolution of radio in Calgary… 101.5 TODAY RADIO! Thank you SO MUCH for listening.

I really like the way that the announcers on many Pattison stations interact so much with listeners during their show. This is similar to what BBC 1 and 2 do in the UK and NRJ radio in Quebec. These breaks usually only run for one minute or 90 seconds but potentially can add some good content to the programs. Also helps to make the hosts and station personal and relatable. Much more interesting than endless music sweeps.
Listening for a few hours yesterday afternoon, Rob and Joelle the program hosts, did an excellent job to explain this minor to moderate change from KOOL FM. Also read listeners reactions (mostly good) on the air, and featured some phone work with the audience. Any concerns or questions were handled very well by the hosts and they kept the show moving and entertaining. People calling in were friendly to Rob and Joelle and were obvious fans of them and the former KOOL.

The music was bang on, and I liked the way that the format/music change, while important and highlighted, wasn't the crux of the show yesterday afternoon. Also liked the way that the hosts mentioned that no announcers were leaving but in fact TODAY would have two additional on air staff. Isn't that nice for a change!!

This in my opinion is the way to make a format change, much more effective than two days of waves crashing against rocks or playing Christmas music for a week, or going commercial free for a few days, and thinking "this will get everyone talking.." Let's give the listener some credit, I think they are a little smarter than that.
