dot sucks

If you missed this, an Ottawa company holds the rights to dot sucks.

Before you rush to buy a domain name, they are charging two thousand dollars a year, which will slow down a few and extort alot.

There are many more dot extensions coming... the game is open to anyone that has a half million dollars to spare.

Apparently, corporations and celebrities are rushing to buy up their names with the .sucks suffix and seemingly are willing to pay what's being asked.
Nothing more than a sleazy extortion racket, if you ask me.
Same thing happened when people started "so and so sucks" websites.
The companies or people named would buy the site names to keep them off the internet.
Simple extortion.
The internet regulators are looking into this and likely will put a stop to it.

Funniest thing I saw on this was a comment on one of the articles on the FTC investigation into .sucks by someone that this a turning point in Internet History. The beginning of the Internet turning into a cesspool.

Where has this guy been for the last 20-odd years?

Doubt that anything will occur to stop it... they did nothing for dot porn or dot sex.

The collection of security guru's want to track and trace everybody. When did the state get to run the telephone system. Did any of these paranoid mongers ask the consumer if they wanted to be tracked and traced...did they ask for Harper's spy palace in Ottawa...the greedy and stupid asked for it. I expect within 5 years the communications companies will be begging for customers because the internet will fully trashed by then and the consumer will be dumping their cell phones too.

Interesting discussion. I suspect that the point here is that walmart.sucks is a lot more potentially damaging, to Walmart's image, than walmart.porn or walmart.sex would be.

If they haven't given it out already, I suspect .stinks and similar will be embargoed until all this is settled with .sucks.

Walmart's image is the same as a person's...Taylor Swift bought her dot porn domain name... the same applies to her image.

The genie is out of the bottle since they put a price tag on playing the game. I am sure there are some creative readers that could add some flavour to these domain extension names with little effort. Some being full of humour. The original intent was to be a yellow pages label and then free enterprise saw big bucks.
