The secret TPP isn't

Postby PMC » Thu Nov 05, 2015 6:58 pm

Michael Geist has a bit on the TPP that is worth reading and following. I expect he will be covering much more of it, now that the official documents are released.

http://www.michaelgeist.ca/2015/11/offi ... ic-domain/

There are so many things wrong with the TPP, because it creates a bureaucracy for america to control. My internet connection is not on the TPP table, but America wants it there. The internet works on the broadband telephone system. Giving american government the right to control a phone system is what they want and only for their own gain. They have been tapping the world's phone systems for their own gain for many years, and this fact is well documented. The TPP will give them a legal licence to continue. Can't mind their own business, so that they can steal your's etc.

If this is a trans pacific partnership, then why isn't China in it... or is because America doesn't want China in it... China has now created their own TPP...

This country doesn't need the TPP, as we already have existing trade agreeements with these countries.

Scrap it now :)

For the past couple of weeks Michael Geist has been covering some of the issues about the TPP.

Today he is on the internet related... appreciate the depth of what he says.

http://www.michaelgeist.ca/2016/01/the- ... overnance/

The internet doesn't belong on the TPP table... it is a telephone system.

If you missed the news from a few days about the TPP rep from Japan. CNN ran it. The story claimed he was arrested for accepting bribes

Latest, the Feds say they will vote on the thing but that doesn't mean they approve of all of it.
Ratification is another thing that may not happen unless there are changes to it.

In spite of this, Canadians have little hope of stopping participation in this piece of global corporate fascism. The fact it was negotiated in secret would suggest ordinary people in signatory countries will be the losers. One only has to look at the current state of Canada's economy to see how well we've benefited from NAFTA & other trade agreements mistakenly signed onto. The mainstream media have done a piss-poor job of enlightening Canadians about this lengthy, complex agreement. While in negotiations, Wikileaks managed to obtain & publish a few redacted pieces from this document. Canadians can now finally see how much we have to lose with release of the full TPP documents

Hi Sky

My buddy

I want to challenge some of what you say

Where is the base line?

Take my dad 1958 - six kids, married, sold his house in Penticton, bought an orchard in Oliver

Had lots of jobs - nothing steady in his life - drank a lot, raised his kids. Wife fairly happy

wages, prices etc. How can you compare those days to 1978, 1998, 2018

Prove to me that I would be better off without NAFTA and current trade agreements

I agree it would be fun to design a world where we reject other countries and corps and just do at it alone. I am afraid if we did we would be voting for
Ms. Clinton and not Mssr. Trudeau.

Give me the baseline, the facts, the stats, prove to me I would be richer and wiser. I am NOT sure.

What I will agree with: loss of jobs. Government should rule when it comes to exporting jobs. If you want to do that.......leave. No shareholders allowed in NA.

That would shake up the corpse and the bottom line thinkers. :worthybow:

Even if the Canadian consumer prefers to pay less for imported goods rather the domestic version of the same product?

Jack, did you make any effort to understand the context of the TPP, from Michael Geist, before pushing your pen on SkyValley.

These link to a project that would not exist if the TPP were in effect. The books are past the authors copyright, of 50 years after death. The TPP would change that to 70. This one tells you about the project

http://www.pgdpcanada.net/c/default.php

This has the actual listing of e-books. Many selections of different types. All can be downloaded in a format that works for you... PDF as example.

Jack, my good friend -

I can't possibly find enough hours in my life to do the research for a lengthy, intelligent debate in answer to your challenge, nor am I a trained experienced economist. I do not have the answers or solutions to preventing this from passing. Besides, I don't Ted has enough bandwidth here to present such a debate. :-) The TPP is a complex, lengthy agreement that will affect the lives of every person living in signatory countries. This insidious agreement has far more negative outcomes than NAFTA or other previous trade agreements Canada has entered into. Unlike the mainstream media or CBC, Michael Geist has done an admirable job of illustrating the implications of the TPP for us ordinary Canadians, whether one is in favour of it or not. I have yet to see any benefit to anyone in any country so far.

Jack, look at our beloved country 20 years after NAFTA & tell me how quality of life has improved. I see a pretty fucked-up Canada from where I sit: Never has there been more inequality in this country between the "haves" & "have-nots". Where are all the jobs from foreign investment. A week or so back, the Prime Minister is shown on TV trying to convince GM not to close Canadian factories & move operations to the US & Mexico. Much of the tourism industry that Premier Barbie-doll gushes about at her numerous photo-ops is based on part-time, minimum wage jobs, often seasonal in nature too. How about affordable housing for existing Canadians?? And how about that softwood lumber dispute??? And how about the endless container ships full of raw logs - how's that working out for us?? And how's the job training for young Canadians going so we can qualify for skilled technical jobs currently held by TFWs?? Enough ranting...

There you go Jack - my true socialist nature is showing through. I value & care about human beings not the corps. that have taken over the planet thanks to the mostly right-wing country leaders running the joint. I can't be the only one who tires of the increasing disconnect between the 1%ers whose wealth continues to increase at the expense of us 99% bottomfeeders here to financially support the masters.

Perhaps you answered your own queries & challenge with your last line: " That would shake up the corpse and the bottom line thinkers"

Sky I was talking to you and would have to analyze other comments that just poked me and said very little.

To you - I hear what you say I see what you wrote - but not convinced that my generation is not doing extremely well in this modern economy.

There were rich and poor in 1956 and there are rich and poor today. My position would be that any one person is better off with the type
of education, health, transport and communication systems we have now in comparison to 60 years ago.

I think some of my comments about corps and foreign jobs may have been misconstrued by others - I apologize. Pass the fries.

As I said it would be interesting if Canada was a bit more like the northern Euros. A bit left for my liking but a neat society.

We live next to the elephant and we play a game of ensuring the beast doesn't roll on us.

I am not going to study NAFTA or TPP - every year a new acronym to study but in the end - it is what you do, what you save, what you plan that makes your world, your family happy. Put down the reports on the wall and go for a walk - beautiful out there today.

Bye Sky and Hi Again soon. :occasion5:

Liberals on a high :worthybow:

Not sure why anyone would say it is time for a change.

I supported the losing side for 12 years. No more. Sucked into the dark side.

The NDP do not deserve to win. No leadership, No plan, No support from the people.

Get a plan, get a leader, get that support then you might have a chance for change.

The first two are easy - the NDP has faled on the last item because it believes in centralized control not listening.

Found this in my travels, and although it is dated, their point is made, as I mentioned above on extending copyright.

As mentioned above, Michael Geist is covering the fine points that are specific relate to Canada.

I continue to argue that the internet should not be on the TPP table, because the internet is a telephone system.

Ottawa, March 10, 2016 -

On February 16th, 2016, the House of Commons Standing Committee on International Trade decided to conduct a study on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement. The Committee’s primary objective is to assess the extent to which the agreement, once implemented, would be in the best interests of Canadians. The study will result in a report to be presented in the House of Commons.

As part of its study, the Committee is inviting Canadian individuals and organizations to provide written submissions that express their views on the TPP agreement. The Committee is also inviting Canadians to request to appear as a witness before the Committee, either as an individual or as a representative of an organization.

Why hasn't the CBC, CTV, Global made this story public ? It was released on March 10th !

A couple of gems here...

The premier of B.C. is pro TPP http://globalnews.ca/news/2637280/b-c-p ... or-canada/

Tthe question is, does the premier know about what is occuring in Japan and the TPP rejection.
