If you ever wanted to have your say in how the top level internet is run, now is your chance.

ICANN -> Internet Corporation For Assigned Names and Numbers

is up for renewal by the U.S. government. There are some people in the world that want a global approach to running the internet. There is a UN body that could run it as example.

This British news site has a piece on the details on input and links to some of the other related issues.

ICANN currently controls many things, some of which other countries find objectionable... including the Canadian Internet Registry Authority.
