For those not aware, another operating system is available called Linux, which comes in many flavours, and branded in various ways.

Ubuntu comes out of Sweden, as does Kubuntu.

The difference between these two is the graphical front end. Ubuntu uses Gnome while Kubuntu uses KDE.

If you download/install either, you can also install both graphic front ends, and choose the one you prefer before logging in.

Each has all the similar software that is available for Windows... the price being alot better, and put together by those that think from a global perspective, rather than out of Redmond.

If you have a second machine consider giving it a try... a 266 and up, with 128 meg of ram and a 10 gigabyte drive.

It can also be installed in a dual boot format with Windows if you have an empty partition for it.

See the websites for the details or ask here.
