(Disc Jockey) Jamboree Airs Friday Night on TCM

Turner Classic Movies airs Jamboree AKA Disc Jockey Jamboree at 10pm PDT (almost all of B.C. and Pacific Northwest), 11pm MDT (Alberta, NWT and Saskatchewan) on Friday, May 18th.

The movie itself is not bad, but it is the opportunity for "full motion video" glimpses of about two dozen top radio DJs, including two Canadians, of the late 1950s that makes this a "must see" for fans of Top 40 Radio of the era. Each DJ picks a song to be performed. Although few of the songs scored big on Billboard, almost all of the artists were big names of the era. My favourite performance is by Fats Domino, who does "Wait and See", a minor hit for him (#23 peak on the Hot 100).

With the recent death of Dick Clark, it is also an opportunity to see a lot of early Dick footage.

Unlike most of what you will see on YouTube, this is movie quality black and white video, not kinescopes of live television broadcasts.
