TV JOURNALIST HUDSON MACK APPOINTED HONORARY LT.-COLONEL
VICTORIA, B.C.- Victoria television journalist Hudson Mack formally accepted appointment as Honorary Lieutenant Colonel of 741 (Victoria) Communication Squadron in an investiture this morning at 10 a.m. at the Naval Officers Training Centre at Workpoint at CFB Esquimalt. News Director and Senior News Anchor for A-Channel News in Victoria, Mr. Mack was notified of his appointment by the Minister of National Defence in May.
741 Communication Squadron Commanding Officer, Maj. Joel Anderson said of the appointment, “ Lt-Col Mack’s appointment provides us an excellent opportunity to improve public awareness of the operations of 741 Communication Squadron and the contribution that communicators make to all elements of the Canadian Forces abroad and on a daily basis. This appointment has an important impact on the morale of the Squadron members, knowing prominent Canadians such as Honorary Lt.-Col. Mack take an active interest in our mission to serve Canada,” said Anderson.
A reserve force unit, 741 (Victoria) Communication Squadron’s mission is to provide trained communication personnel to support Canadian Forces operations. 741 Squadron specializes in tactical and strategic communication, employing voice, electronic and telecommunication systems. The unit provides communication support to the Army Reserve on Vancouver Island and provides manning support to the Navy and Maritime Forces Pacific. Personnel may be assigned to work to provide communications links between and within all elements of the Canadian Forces and headquarters. Many members of the Squadron have served in UN and NATO missions around the world.
Hon. Lt-Col Mack was born in Calgary. His broadcasting career began at CFJC TV and Radio in Kamloops and CKPG Prince George. He spent 19 years at CH tv News in Victoria before joining A-Channel Vancouver Island in September 2004. His work has been recognized with a variety of broadcast industry awards. Hon. Lt.-Col Mack succeeds Lt.-Gen. F.S.”Fin” Clark CBE who was appointed the Squadron’s first Honorary Colonel in 1978 and University of Victoria Professor Emeritus Lt.-Col Reginald Roy who served from 1988 until 2006.
