Union Files Complaint Against CHUM

News from the world of Television

The Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada has filed a complaint with the CRTC claiming that last month's cuts to CHUM Ltd.'s news operations violate its licenses.

The union claims that CITY TV stations in Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver breached their licenses by cutting local programming in those markets.

Vancouver's CITY TV is required to broadcast at least 27.5 hours a week of local programming, including at least 12 hours of news.

The CEP says that, because of the cuts, local programming will drop to 18 hours a week.

Bring on more repeats of Cooking with Simi and StarTV. Problem solved. Besides who is the CRTC gonna punish? Chum doesn't shiv a git since they sold the joint and CTV doesn't own it yet.
