It is very interesting to hear how Canadian music has developed over the decades since the CRiTTiC mandated that radio stations play a percentage of music created and recorded by Canadian artists.
Of course well before the "Can-Con" regulation there were Canadian artists recording music - From what I have read and heard, They had to go to the US to make their recordings.
One such artist, who's song is an "ear worm" for me is Priscilla Wright; Her song; "Man In A Raincoat" has such a haunting melody. (She was just 14 years old when she recorded the song(
The song tells of a woman who was swept off her feet by a fellow who was, as we find out later in the song - a good-for-nothing who cared only about himself.
The 1955 song was covered by Lita Roza a singer from the UK and also by Marion Marlowe a US singer. The Marlowe version came out just a month or so after the Priscilla Write version.
