I was in school, in a music class. When we all heard the news we packed up our instruments and headed to a class room where there was located We went into the class turned on the radio and listened to news for the rest of the day, until it was time to go home. It was a very quiet school bus ride.

At home we put the TV on and watched CBC which was carrying the CBS feed. The TV service was non-stop news from the U.S. ...There was no regular programming until after the funeral.

The president was shot at 11:30 AM mountain time, my time in 1963 as I was in Alberta, and Kennedy was declared dead just a half hour later. I found out the news from my mother when I came home from school for lunch that day. By the time I returned to class that afternoon, it was all anyone was talking about. At eight years old I was just old enough to comprehend that this was a pretty significant event. I was more personally moved by his brothers death by an assassin less than five years later. By then, I was a more politically and socially aware 13 year old and had the personal connection of having seen the senator in person at the 1966 Calgary Stampede parade.

I was sick, and at home from School, in Victoria - when the horror started - I called out to my Mom and she and I sat in stunned silence, both crying, watching the CBS feed. The memories of that horrible day are still clear, all these years later.

I don't think people of later generations understand how big an impact JFK made. He was HOPE, he was going to make life better for the world.

Something more than Mr. Kennedy died that day.

I still can't believe it was 50 years ago. My Gosh.

To our American friends - condolences are still appropriate.
