CKLQ Brandon Does a Complicated FM Flip

Postby jon » Fri Jan 06, 2017 9:30 am

CKLQ Brandon is a successful country station with 10,000 watts on 880 KHz. With local CHQT-880 off the air a few weeks ago, I was surprised to get CKLQ with such a strong signal on the car radio that there was slop on 870. I suspect they were still on Day pattern at the time as, less than an hour later, they were no longer the dominant station on 880.

The CRTC just granted them a move to 91.5 MHz with 100,000 watts, but switching the existing 880 frequency and power to a repeater of the FM for license purposes. To make this possible, CIWM-FM, a local repeater of CINC-FM Thomson, a Type B Native station, is moving from 91.5 to 107.5 MHz.

No changes to the format of CKLQ are planned.
