I think the topic of word use and PC is a great one but I am not at the moment willing to write an essay.

I found it funny to see one avatar showing on this thread - a picture of Samuel Clemens - who wrote great literature with
words used generally in his day like nigger.

We have been revising poetry and fine literature since the begining of the written word - the bible, Shakespeare, Brothers Grimm, etc.

There never will be one answer to the many questions - just many opinons that will continue to change over time.

So...

I heard Dire Straits "Money for Nothing" on a certain Classic Rock station this morning...

Who do I not complain to? ;-)

It depends what version you heard. The radio edit has been playing in fairly heavy rotation for the last nearly 30 years on innumerable stations across this country and across a fairly wide selection of music formats.

During the early morning hours... the unedited original... allegedly offensive word and all...

...and just to rub it in ...

For a couple of weeks now, that same station has regularly been following it up an hour or so later with the unedited original version of Rough Trade's "High School Confidential". :-)

The whole verse:

What's the principal doin' with her?
Who's that guy, is he screwing with her?
What's her perfume? Tigress by Fabergé
She makes me cream my jeans
When she's coming my way.

So that's two strikes there (creaming and screwing).
At least that's the case in The Rough Trade version. Carole Pope's later solo effort is slightly different.

That song had me contemplating going to UBC to take Education!

I would have been good at screening applicants for the Cheer Leading Team.
