A couple of TV old-timers who had off-air support roles in Edmonton have died in the past week.

Vic Wintoniak was one of the original film cameramen hired when CBXT opened in 1961. Vic worked at CFRN before joining CBC Edmonton when the station signed on. He later managed the CBC Edmonton film department before moving on to become a success in the insurance business. He died May 4th. The family invites friends to join them at a reception to honor his memory on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Derrick Golf & Winter Club, 3500 - 119 Street from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. If so desired, donations may be made to the Cross Cancer Institute.

Hugh Doherty, Area and Executive Producer of TV New for CBC Edmonton from 1976-1978 died in Ottawa on May 7th. His news journeys took him to both ends of this country, from Victoria to St. John's. A full obituary can be found at: http://lifeplace.basicfunerals.com/comp ... herty/1366

These things seem to come in threes. I just got word that another CBC Edmonton type from the mid-70's died on Thursday (May 9). Paddy Gregg was The National's reporter for Alberta based in Edmonton for a couple of years before he returned to his home province of New Brunswick to run the local news operation.

More info can be had at http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-bruns ... d-cbc.html.
