Wow! Granted it's 2+, but can anyone remember the last time NW was in single digits?

There has to be changes at CKNW, STAT.

Mornings are dismal and much as I like Simi Sara as a person - her show is not exactly lighting up the audience.

My guess is that there will be changes, and it could involve major surgery.

Must be a lot of tension in the Black Tower.

Likewise, has CKNW ever before been as low as number three in the overall ratings since they stopped playing country music in the early fifties?

Before anyone celebrates the death of The Top Dog( long live the Dog), let's keep in mind this is NOT your father and mothers's BBM survey. PPM is a vastly different model of fact-gathering.

It's not my father and mother's, or for that matter my CKNW either. Look at the numbers from this rating period in 2010, 2 short years ago. CKNW has dropped 5 share points and CBU has gained 5 share points.
I doubt if CKNW has EVER been in single digits. Even when they were the home of The Rhythm Pals and the Western and hillbilly music, they had to have had a rating over a 10 share, hell, there was only 5 stations in the market then.

I've marked 06/07/12 on my calendar as the day NW hit single digits. Next landmark will be when their numbers are the same as a moderate earthquake Richter scale reading like a 5.9.

I'm not at all surprised to see what is happening to CKNW. From the numbers I've seen that I'm not allowed to share, all I can say is Thank God I'm not one of the people who has to try and sell that dog's breakfast. I'd like to do a list of wht needs to be fixed but it would be much simpler to do a list of what's right.

Anyways, the one that really stumps me is The Shore. The boys from Astral fired most of the staff on January 31. The station ran jockless for a couple of months while the music was tweaked and an annoying recorded female voice was added to the end of each song. New jocks were added to this new mix and the results are the very same as what they had before. I cannot recall seeing any print or other kind of advertsing for the New improved Shore 104. Were the promotion dollars frozen the day the Astral sale to Bell was announced and there was no cash available to promote Astral's new $13 million dollar radio station?

If Bell doesn't do a managerial bloodbath when they take over in the next week or two, I'm sure whoever they sell Virgin and Shore to will do the deed.

How can Plasteras still have a job? If memory serves me correct, the station still had a 20 share when he took over.

What about the slow steady decline of Jack FM. What's the answer there? Perhaps it's time to hire some live bodies outside of the morning show...or are those days gone forever?

When a station becomes more about preserving the management class than preserving your listenership you end up with the declining results of CKNW. They will use the late spring and summer to cook up some scramble to the lineup to scapegoat the on-air talent when we all know what the real problem is. Plasteras should be the one hitting the pavement, but I can only think of how grim things would get in the tower if management of that relic were left to Koenigsfest.

If you look at the numbers on a chart, they are in free fall. Their best hope (and I'm sure it's the one they are holding out for) is that Clark loses the next election and has the audacity to return to her old slot.

They need something. Their cume is 14th!

News 1130 upped their game and they have no sports. How do they renew themselves? If only another viable talk station came into this market to finally push them off the cliff... but 1040 is doing a good enough job of that in the male demo.

What about sonic? Looks like their ratings are down from when they were playing oldies. Time for yet another format flip?

Unless Kid Carson can help gain listeners when his show starts.

Will Kid Carson save the day for Sonic? Guess we'll find out later this summer. In the meantime, didn't The Beat's numbers actually go up after he left?

The Beat did do well. But if they market Kid Carson right on Sonic, maybe he can bring that old audience with him and prove that the on-air talent is actually worth something.

With the revolving door Sonic and all it's previous incarnations has had in recent years, Kid better keep his audition tapes handy for the next gig. Oh and remind Kid to say "Chilliwack" once or twice an hour to keep the CRTC happy. :glasses7:
