Vancouver PPM ratings 12+

While Talent can be impactful on a stations' ratings, the real problem is much deeper. And this applies to Vancouver and all other markets.

Management has no idea what, specifically constitutes "Talent". They don't know what, specifically, it is. They don't know if they actually have some already on board and they wouldn't be able to recognise Talent if it walked up to them in broad daylight and lifted their wallets. The one thing they can say, however, is: They don't like now and haven't liked - for a long time - what they have.

Even the titty/crotch joke-providers are getting waxed. They just wear off over time as audiences mature and tire of the juvenile approaches. Younger audiences, particularly, will need a great deal more than wise-ass aficianados to make music radio even close to relevant. Scratch that. Every audience will be requiring more than the paltry samplings being offered today.

CKNW can start by firing Bill Good and Phillip Till, the Tetley Tea Hour, and The Ovaltine after 8 program need a HUGE shake up !!!!, maybe hire Michael Smyth (Full time), as well as a straight shooting contraversial commentator like Alex Tsakumis

Tsakumis will never be hired by NW, possibly the most disliked man by people inside the building after Jim Mullin.

What!? And why was I not informed? What spell chekker?
(And now, back to the thread.)

As to the Vancouver (and other markets) ratings: Does anyone but me smell that sweet, sickly aroma of panic-sweat and desperation? Or are the salty air and/or perhaps the garden-fresh Glade sprays still covering things up?

Yeah, but. If Corus is set on the kind of cost cutting being rumoured for the west, will there be anybody left "inside the building" who dislikes Tsunami? My prediction if the cost cutting rumours are true, are a boatload of cheap syndicated talk programming from south of the border. Or maybe even U.S. infomercials and other paid programming including religious and ethnic if they want to cut the sales staff too.

Jim Mullin got dumped by Corus, if I am not mistaken.

No one knows what is up at the Black Tower - but if the recent Edmonton/Corus schamozzle is any indication - there are huge changes afoot.

Look at CKNW's cume! (yipes).

Not sure what you mean by the Edmonton/Corus schamozzle reference. Doug Rutherford's departure is about the only piece of real news beyond the usual wild speculation and the annual rumour that 880 is abandoning news. This time may be different since Doug was the champion of 880 as a way to prevent Rogers from setting up its own news station. A lot depends on how much head office still buys into Doug's thinking on the subject.

Fair call slowhand - but, Rutherford has held sway for years, and the McKenzie sales misstep at CKNW, and that oft rumoured 880 situation - makes me think that things are getting ugly. You are closer to the situation than I, so I defer to your take....but I just have a feeling, that things are getting tense.

Hope it doesn't mean chopping more jobs. Too many of our friends have been sidelined.

I have always thought Alex speaks from the heart and is a hell of a writer.

I worked with Mullin - and liked him very much. He knows his stuff and is fearless.

Best to both of them. T A L E N T E D.

If they play more syndication they should probably syndicate within across the Corus network but keep the quality respectable. They have enough people to go through most of the day. Although I really dont think anyone at NW would be considered a keeper.

I've never met this Alex guy or heard anything he's done, but I found it very interesting (from reading the link) that he thinks he would revolutionize news talk radio if CKNW would only give him a chance.

Easy to say from the sidelines, I guess.

It's not a secret Alex that management at NW is not a fan of you ever since your tirade on Carly Nicol a ways back. And if you're as hot a commodity as you say you are, you'd have been picked up by a credible outlet now (radio or tv), not writing for your own website, like some bitter, passed over hack, relying on quotes from message boards for articles.
