I am sure the 3700 people that are out of work are just having a ball. Christmas will be lovely for them.

Laughing it up as they lose their homes. Oh yeah, a real fun time.

Now CKNW has hired another Aussie. DREX.

Where the heck is the CRTC>?

CKNW is a joke - and I find this whole thing just...PATHETIC.

This Andrew Krystal guy CKNW tried out this past weekend is from...Toronto. Should we be mad about that too?

Both Drex and Ronnie are Canadians.

If Ronnie's Canadian, he's from the extreme southeast part of Newfoundland!

And you're from a long line of First Nations, I'm sure.

In a discussion about ratings (or lack of) a pissing war breaks out amongst some disgruntled former broadcasters who just can't get over the fact that a few folks from Australia are working in
the Vancouver radio market. Have you ever thought of boarding a plane and heading down under to look for the work that seems to be eluding you here? A number of my friends from school
have made the move and have no plans of coming back here. They've all been welcomed and aren't accused of taking jobs away from Aussies.

It's a two way street. Look both ways before you cross.

Say hi to Rolf when you get to Sydney.

I'm with you Karen. It's a little sad to start blaming the "foreigners."

We shouldn't judge people by their accents, nationalities, or colour of skin. We should judge them by their Adult 18 to 54 rankings.

Adult 25-54 is the money. Go there.

55-70 are those who have the money. Go there and do it well... with the understanding you will have it all to yourself.
Feast heartedly.

And they are very good at keeping that money... That way they win "the contest" - he/she who dies with the most?

That brings up an interesting point about the baby boomers. The cliche that people over 55 don't pay attention to advertising and don't buy anything is being debunked. In fact, several studies are now showing that older people are LESS brand loyal than young people. So not only is it a fast growing demographic, it is also under-targeted by advertisers.

Hi Karen:

I am so glad that you really care about people.

I don't need a job. I am retired and don't need anything. I just care about the poor people that get hooked and some "New Canadian", get's their job.

Fie on CORUS. Have a great Holiday.

Let's be clear on why the stations are hiring them thar fereigners.
These moves are no more than desperate, roll-the-dice attempts at finding some kind of edge - something/anything that might catch listeners' ears and translate into numbers.
Sometimes - depending on the quality of the performer - it works. Mostly, not so much.
Still, I agree that hiring local is the preferred strategy - for all the well-known reasons.
After listening to the market and assessing the numbers, it doesn't take a nuclear botanist to figure out that hiring "accents" is just a shot in the dark.

Are we ignoring VIRIGIN's ascent under Mr. Stanton?

And that an announcer in Courtany BC made the national news? Seems we're all aware of these two former Australians more than we are of the average radio employee.
