Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

Top two stations in the market are on AM. So, AM radio isn't quite dead here in Cowtown. ;)

And look at XL103...their place at the top was very short lived.

And look at XL103...Whoever made the decision to get Joanne Johnson and Don Stevens in there must really be kicking themselves.

Even stupider was the decision by that person to make Don Stevens the PD of what was a very successful XL 103.

That person by the way has left NewCap and is now managing Astral's Edmonton cluster.

I guess looking at CHFM's numbers for the past year, it was the station and it's music that attracted an audience, not the highly over-rated Yawn and Joanne.

Once again, there will be no ratings bonus cheque for Mr Stevens, and the remaining time on the Yawn and Joanne contract is ticking away.

This time next year they could be hosting Kingo Bingo on CFCN TV.

Ain't no Kingo Bingo left in Calgary. Gotta go to CTV Winnipeg for that.

Any chance that some of XL's loss is due to some gains at UP?

IMHO - a strangely paced morning show with a tired sounding guy and a screechy woman, with the same call-in commentators they've been using for too many years, playing to an obvious and narrow target, can't be good for business.

Rather than crush their morning show... consider that they have also injected much more "live" talk now, than they ever have... PLUS
a voicetracked evening show... perhaps the listenership preferred less talk, more "iPod"...

As radiofan and others can attest: 'QR has held a 9-10.5 share since christ was a sea cadet. It's their default position - few gains, few losses. Only the fragmentation of the market provides them with what seems like an exalted place at the top. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

Meanwhile, the party at 'XL has been over for many, many months. No adult audience is going to tolerate a 1970's-'80's, top-40-ish, superficial and maudlin, Jocks-in-Chains-approach along with such restricted playlists. What has been and is now a far more sophisticated and discerning audience have actual lives. But, since many PD's or Consultants have little else in their quivers - tha's whats we gets. Too bad they can't hear the yawns of indifference or grunts of disgust from just beyond the speakers.

...and Calgary listeners have had to endure over 20 freaking years of this garbage. Honestly, I stopped listening to 103 in the mornings as soon as that morning show arrived.

On Lite96, Jamie "the Coach" Herbison was the show's energy. He offset the lack of personality of Grumpy and Screechy
