Growing up on a grain farm in Central Saskatchewan (Unity), it was always CJYM, CKOM or CKCK in the combine. My brothers and I were devastated when CKCK went oldies! However you could always count on CKOM's 9 o'clock showdown or top 7 at 7. Some good memories.

Great memories Troy. I've been through Unity several time on trips to "The Toon".

In addition to the stations you mentioned, CKSA 1080 from Lloyd was our "local" station. The folks loved CFCW.

Didn't CJYM / CFYM used to be know as CKKR? I seem to recall that station signing on in the late 1960s.

Haven't heard CJYM since I left there in about 91 or 92. Used to love the split at 6pm when 1330 went to Bob Larsen (crazy exorcisms and fire and brimstone religious programming) and 1210 went full on CHR.

I'd totally forgotten about Bob Larsen. What a whack job he was. Him and his demons begging for $ to keep his fine show on the air.
In the early 90's there was bumper stickers plastered on lamp standards all over downtown Vancouver that read something like this .. "For A Real Laught Tune In 550 AM at 1 PM". 550 AM of course was KARI, the bible thumpin' station from Birch Bay, WA.

How could I forget CKSA!? Great station in the 80's and popular in Unity. It was a bit far from our farm so we always had it on Kindersley for weather purposes. Our mid day guy at Sunny, Mike Shea, is from the Unity area and we chat about this all the time. He was in Lloyd during their hayday. He recalls Iron Maiden being a part of the CKSA playlist! Sad though...I'll be heading back in the next week or so to help out on the farm...no more 620, no more 1080, no more music on 650...can't get the Goat clear enough from the farm...CJYM it is.

Thanks for the fun memories guys.

How about CKVX 104.9 from Kindersley? (hmmm .. weren't the CKVX calls previously on 104.9 in Vancouver??)

Might be time to get Sirius or XM on the tractor Troy!
