Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

Wonder why the audience for country music has imploded? Year to year they went from a 7.1 to a 4.6. Doesn't look like the Peak is working out for them either although the 1.9 share is probably a saleable demo. Rogers can't seem to get any traction with 104 despite a pile of format changes and are only barely ahead of an AM playing music. The bloom is also off the Jack rose. Overall it looks like listening is down from 2 years ago and considering how lacklustre most of the stations are it's not surprising. Only real success story is the CBC on AM of all things watching its audience grow by 50% over the past two years. You wonder what the folks at The Shore must be thinking. A pox on all of their houses. Corporate radio sucks.

I wonder how much of CBC Radio One's gains can be attributed to the jump to 88.1FM...?

For some reason I'm not at all surprised at 104.9's dismal showing in this book.

Six sets of hands can't seem to get it right this time around.

See guys...repetition kills. How long will it take this pack of clowns to realize people don't want to hear the same old tired shit over and over every day of the week?

You've got a license to print money and you've run out of ink!

Take a lesson from NewCap in Edmonton and Calgary.

I was going to take you to task for the "repetition kills" comment, because generally for oldies it works, but 104.9 is out of control. 18 spins a week on top songs?! Wow!

Yikes.....sure does look like P1's are leaving radio in droves.

104.9's liner machine and same 212 records.....sink....
These guys have spent MILLIONS.
Best of luck to Geoff Poulton.
Oh, and why does 104.9 PD still have a job...?
How about their BRILLIANT consultants..?

Is Jack is DONE....?

*but - Heh Larry and Willy are the nicest people in radio.....

I pity sales teams at a lot of these stations.....it must be heck on wheels on 'the street'.

Come on flange, The Greatest Hits of All Time. Apparently there have only been 212 hits, and they play them over and over and over and over. For a time, I thought I didn't know anything about the radio biz. Seems I know a lot more than whoever they hired to come up with that schlock! :sad3: Get radio back into the hands of radio people.
Unless they haven't already starved to death. :bigsmurf:

s Jack is DONE....?

Not yet, in our target demo of adults 25-54 I'm actually the city's second choice. Just saying. Dig deeper into the numbers and it's not all doom and gloom. Although it's a long way from the 13.7 we had out of the gate - DONE is far from the right word.

I know you have to drink the kool-aid to work for Rogers but...from the Vancouver Sun

In the all-important 25-54 age demographic, both QMFM and Virgin Radio led in the female category, each with an 11.1 share, while Rock 101 led in male listenership with a 13.5 share, way up from the last book's 10.0 percentage.

CKWX dropped 1.3 points, from 5.6 to 4.3, and CKLG, aka Jack FM, fell from 6.1 to 4.9.

It was a lousy book for Rogers.

Looking at the first entry, they (CKWX) always seem to take a dump in S2... anyone figure out why? Funny how a Canuck playoff run helps the fortunes of CKST compared to other S2's!

I thought it might be interesting to look at Reach, the number of listeners at some point each week, and compare CKWX and CKNW. The argument is that News-heavy stations don't have the sustained listenership that a music station does and should be judged differently.

First, Central Area numbers, in hundreds of thousands of listeners, from now backwards through time, to S2 2007:
CKNW - 336, 316, 354, 329, 346, 331, 325, 329, 306
CKWX - 319, 357, 327, 340, 288, 338, 319, 332, 315

Full Coverage (only two ratings periods each year):
CKNW - 403, 434, 401, 390
CKWX - 373, 380, 397, 377

Expressed differently, CKNW would be rated #2 in Central Area Reach (The Beat is number 1) and #3 in Full Coverage Reach, after CBU and The Beat. CKWX ranks #4 in both.

So just over 1,000 books were sent out to folks in the Lower Mainland. If my math is correct, that's less than 1% of the population... and then that small number has to remember to write down everything and get it right Its no wonder there can be big swings from book to book. Bring on the PPMs !

(PS... nobody tell Sykes that David Pratt & Co. have the number-1 afternoon radio show!)
