Here's a link to the website for Global Calgary's 60th. The first video is an edited version of the retrospective which aired as part of the Global TV Calgary News Hour on the station's 60th anniversary -

Included is a CFAC-TV promo which I assume ran after the station disaffiliated from CBC in 1975, along with a promo for ACTION NEWS. I have no idea why a newscast would run at 2:30 p.m. in the afternoon.

The retrospective video ends with an airing of Frank Gari's "Hello Calgary" jingle. I still think the Calgary version sounds the best of the bunch produced by Gari - http://blogs.calgaryherald.com/2014/03/ ... d-tell-us/

Also on the web page are videos from the time of Ed Whalen's passing, Gil Tucker leading a re-singing of "Hello Calgary" and a shorter retrospective news story.

Thanks for posting this AlbertaBoyForLife... Enjoyed it immensely. Here's a question though. CHCT had "Guys and Dolls"... which later, I think became "Jims N' Jeans". I'm trying to remember what CFCN's answer to that show was with "Whoopee" Don Wood. I was on both of them... but as the years go by.........

Teens and Twenty?

Or something like that . . . I have a fuzzy memory of Don Wood's last CFCN Evening News appearance and they ran a pretty cool film of Don in quadruplicate singing the Beatles' "She Loves You" or other song at the end of the newscast. Credit went to his 1960s teen tv show, and I think they said Teens and Twenty.

My memories of CFAC TV are from the late '60s when I would escort the Lethbridge teams to Calgary to take part in "Reach for the Top" programs.
One one occasion, it happened to be the first day Ed Whelan wore his toupee on camera.
It was a memorable one.
One of the crew was up in the lighting grid with nylon line with a fish hook on the end of it.
He managed to snag the hair piece and whip it off Whelan's head, live, on camera!
The entire studio crew and guests, including the students, roared with laughter.
Ed handled it with his usual aplomb, saying, "Well now you know!" and kept on doing his sportscast.

Here's a link to a Channel 2 Calgary blooper, I'm guessing from the late '60s - http://globalnews.ca/video/1595313/paci ... nniversary

Anyone recognize the newsman at the anchor desk who is asked by Ed Whalen to go away?
