None of us really went through the Great Depression
and I doubt we will ever see such an event in our
lifetime.
But economists are now saying that this latest
recession - possibly the worst since WW2 - will
be felt by our current population as their great
depression.
Personally I am an optimist and have been saying we need
a new president in the US, we need the American government
to buy back a lot of credit from China and get out of war
zones where the great sucking sound of money going into
funeral parlours is heard.
Economists are now predicting that we will become preoccupied
with holding our jobs, looking for new ones and creating our
own in this down time. In fact all of us should become buyers.
Buy when the market is at the bottom and you will feel better
in two years when we hit another top. Buy not cars and tv's
but land and quality stocks.
I am going to weather the storm
with two cheques in the mail each month - where the amount
of work involved is minimal.
In Oliver I work for the Feds reviewing vegetables at
Super Valu and I don’t file reports - I just remember LBP
and the CPP
At home I get a cheque for answering the phone when a local
is upset with a pothole.
Not much money but enough to help with my membership in the
senior citizens centre, the odd tenderloin steak and lots of
potatoes.
Now this morning I was reviewing the negative headlines and I saw
that the interest rates may go down again. That's good for my
mortgage. There will be massive job loss.
Mostly part time.
Well that probably means that a lot of employees that were
not needed will be let go. God I am cynical. The economy is contracting because of many things...the biggest being fear.
Did you see the headline - Canadians fear the outcome of events in Ottawa!! - Really are we that naive.
It's Christmas the annual season for radio stations and other business to get rid of the dead wood. (Remember NW in 1999) - time to chop off heads and cut down Christmas Trees.
I ramble but ask yourself why don't they get rid of people while they are swimming in the surf rather than at the most depressing (no good light) time of the year no wonder why suicides are highest at this time of the year.
Bear down - buy Kraft dinner - walk more, buy less - do what the mob says - it will be over soon or in two years. But it might be your Great Depression as you have never experienced one. Let’s review this file in a couple of months.
