what national title does she hold?

Miss Teen USA is correct - for bonus points - what year? and who is she? (lol)

1968 .. Pamela Martin (CKNW's first female "beat reporter")

Are you sure about that? I thought she was just a State winner???? Here's a link and I don't see her name??

I have a tie between howabout, sandysteve, bites, mighty mouth and radiofin - so this part is only open to them

Be patient brothers: here are the questions

1. In the late 1960's, CBC Television aired a production of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. The part of Marc Anthony was played by a young actor whose destiny lay in the stars. Who was he?
2. What famous children's show featured a long-necked creature who spoke just like actor Jimmy Stewart?
3. Before we had the C.R.T.C., who regulated broadcasting in Canada?
4. In 1960, he wowed Broadway audiences in the musical Camelot starring Richard Burton and Julie Andrews. Who was he and what CBC-TV show gave him his start?
5. He is now one of the craggy old men on CBS but in the early 1960's, he was the London correspondent for CBC News. Name him.

Mighty Mouse

there was a miss teen usa pageant and
a miss teen usa

the latter started way way back and included miss martin from detroit

the pageant started way after and includes no winners from 1968

the whole world of titles and pagents is beyond me

From Wikipedia Mouse:

In 1968, Martin won the Miss Teen USA title (not to be confused with the Miss Teen USA pageant established in 1983).

As for the 'bonus' questions, I don't really care about any of the answers, one of which is Robert Goulet, so I'll let the others spend their Sunday googling. Have a nice day.

1. I'm assuming you mean Marc Antony - that would William Shatner
2. That would be Jerome the Giraffe on the Friendly Giant?
4. As for the previously mentioned Robert Goulet, his first gig was on Pick the Stars in '52. His first co-starring role was in Showtime.

The BBG --- Board of Broadcast Governors .. and prior to that, it was the CBC

I have had representations from other parties who claim that Martin never held the Miss Teen USA title. Can the quiz master produce supporting documentation confirming this claim, other that Martin's CTV bio and the wikipedia entry which is taken from that bio. I have done a fair amount of searching and can't even find a Miss Teen USA pageant prior to 1983. As it was put to me "If I was made out to be a Heisman trophy winner, but I wasn't and there was no proof otherwise, would I make an effort to correct it? probably not"

The Miss Teen International pageants were held held in Hollywood, California, from 1966 to 1969

From left to right:
U.S.A. Pamela Martin (2nd runner-up), Australia, Janette Anne McLeod (winner) & Canada, Ane Grazyna Sapieja(1st runner-up)

1968 Apr 10, 1968 - ... ... night after being named Miss teen-usa during the Teen Age Fair in Hollywood. Miss Martin is a junior at Seaholm High School in Birmingham, Mich. ... for the US title and on Saturday will be competing against 11 girls from foreign countries for the title of Miss Teen International. ...

The number one source of authenticity on Pamela's claim is that she told me this in the 80's
before the world had access to information on the internet. She has been consistent in telling
people she won the award at the age of 15 and travelled to Japan with that title.

Here are the answers to the to the questions posed earlier to get a winner - I shall declare very soon.

TELEVISION:
1. William Shatner looked just ducky in his Roman toga but soared to great heights as Captain Kirk on Star Trek.
2. Jerome the giraffe regularly poked his head into the Friendly Giant's castle and conversed in his slow Jimmy Stewart-style drawl. His voice was done by Rod Coneybeare.
3. The B. B. G. The Board Of Broadcast Governors.
4. Robert Goulet first appeared with Shirley Harmer on Showtime sponsored by Canadian General Electric.
5. Morley Safer. He obviously enjoyed his British posting because almost every year on 60 Minutes, he does a couple of stories from London.

this post edited several times to upgrade info on Martin. Thanks to John Kendrick for the link to the first picture with PM portrayed on it

Good points there howaboutthatisnowaninvestigativereporter.

The nagging question that keeps reappearing in my mind is the dates. The Miss Teen USA (or whatever it's called) was 1968 when Martin was 15.

The Miss Wisconsin title was 1971.

Isn't going from a national title to being a Miss Cheesehead State three years later somewhat a backwards step?

Kind of like starting in radio fresh out of BCIT doing the morning show at NW and then working your way into the all nite show.

Could be the Miss Teen USA thing was a contest sponsored by some teen magazine and it really had no recognition other than on the magazine rack at the local five and dime.

"Bites" is the winner :male:

A wonderful quiz - don't you think? Some easy, some hard and some impossible.

Question did you learn anything?
