Record for Call Letter Changes?

Postby jon » Sun Nov 22, 2009 6:32 pm

Listening to 1520 Oregon City on the way home in the car (here in Edmonton), I am looking, as I always do, at Lee Freshwater's wonderful http://www.amlogbook.com

And noticed the number of call letter changes they've gone through in the last few years: currently KGDD, and he lists "EX - KFXX / KKSN / KZNY".

FCCinfo.com lists:
Call Sign History
KGDD from 03/15/2004
KZNY from 11/17/2003
KKSN from 04/01/1998
KFXX from 09/12/1989
KSGO from 09/01/1984
KYXI from ???

I know, from my 1960s DX days that they went from KGON to KYMN to KYXI back then.

That makes 8 sets of call letters. Can anyone think of a station that has been through more sets of calls?

I hope you're a passenger when you're doing this Jon. Talking on the phone is one thing, surfing the web is another! :tail

1590 in Seattle ties it with 8 (that I can think of):
KETO, KSND, KUUU, KJET, KQUL, KZOK, KPOZ, & KLFE.
Did I miss any RadioFan?

Dan - original calls for 1590 in Seattle was KTIX and it was a daytimer at that time. Here's another fun Seattle frequency with numerous changes:

1540: KGIB, KBVU, KFKF-AM, KBES-AM, KZAM-AM, KJZZ, KBLV, currently KXPA

KGIB came on air in the late 1940's and was a daytimer licensed to Bremerton. After silent for some years in the late 1950's, AM 1540 was assigned to Bellvue and KBVU was the first licensee from that location (also a daytimer). 8-)
