Though hardly as well known as KHJ, WMEX was a popular Top 40 station in Boston until 1978 when the call letters were changed. The station just restored the WMEX call letters on November 17th.
If you lived in the West back then, you probably never heard WMEX. KGA in Spokane and WLAC in Nashville dominated 1510 KHz in the Pacific Northwest.
Other than local record survey collectors, the only connection with the Pacific Northwest for WMEX is as the next gig for Larry Lujack after he left KJR in Seattle in September 1966.
If you collected the Cruisin' collection, you may also remember WMEX from the 1961 edition featuring Arnie "Woo Woo" Ginsburg.
To clarify, it is just the call letters that are back. Arnie and the music are long gone.
