When I arrived in Edmonton in January 1975, there was one newspaper, the Edmonton Journal. It would be that way for another three years, until the Edmonton Sun began publication in 1978, with an edge of having a Sunday edition. Initially, both papers published 6 days a week: the Journal without a Sunday edition and the Sun without a Saturday edition.
This morning, I found out "The Rest of the Story" as Paul Harvey used to say. The Journal's "Today in History" feature covers it, including the front page of its first edition:

The Edmonton Bulletin was founded by Frank Oliver on December 6, 1880, and its original building has been recreated in Fort Edmonton Park. The last issue was published on this day in 1951. The reasons for its closing may surprise you, so I'll let you read about it in the article link above.
