From this morning's Edmonton Journal:

Evelyn Rutherford
RUTHERFORD, Evelyn Olive Anne
(nee Fooks)
Peacefully at Luther Court, Victoria, B.C. August 10th, 2011, in her 84th year.
Ev was predeceased by her husband Walt, radio newsman and talk show host, in January, 1990, and is survived by her sons David (Lynda), Donald (Shirley), and Douglas (Michelle), 10 grandchildren, brother Norman, and sisters Marjorie, Dorothy and Shirley, and dear friend and companion John Galipeau.
Born March 20, 1927 In Hannah, Alberta, Ev was raised with her family in Lethbridge, where she married Walt in 1948.
Walt's lengthy radio career took them to Edmonton, Vancouver and Victoria, and they eventually settled in Brentwood Bay. Evs career included work at the Rutherford Library at U of A Edmonton as well as many years at ICBC in Vancouver and Victoria. Ev was active in the communities in which they lived, including IODE in Edmonton and served on the condominium association in Brentwood Bay. Always a woman of style, she was never one to miss an opportunity to go shopping and a "sale" sign could not be passed without a least a cursory look, if not a purchase. Ev made lifelong friends in all the cities on her journey and she cherished all of them. In fact, even in her final days she recalled her years at ICBC often and fondly referred to many of her co-workers.
The immediate family attended a graveside service at St. Stephens Anglican Church and there will be a celebration of her life in Alberta at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Stephens Church, 7921 St. Stephens Road, Saanichton, B.C., V8M 1S2, would be appreciated.
