From ROLLING STONE:

By Daniel Kreps | October 5, 2014

Paul Revere, organist and ringleader of the long-running rock band the Raiders, passed away October 4th at his home in Idaho, the band's official website revealed. Revere was 76. No cause of death was revealed, but TMZ reports that Revere (born Paul Revere Dick) battled with cancer over the past year. Thanks to his colorful clothing and infectious stage persona, Revere earned a reputation as "the madman of rock & roll." He and his Raiders scored a handful of hits throughout their five decades together, including their anti-drug smash "Kicks."

It would have been nice to hear a few tunes by Paul Revere & The Raiders today, but I guess that won't happen now that CISL has reverted to a Smooth And Sleepy format.

It'll be a week or two until Red Robinson can make mention of Revere's death thanks to automation and the fact that his weekly show is recorded earlier in the week.

What a joke.

I had always assumed that Paul Revere was the name adopted by lead singer Mark Lindsay, just as Peter Noone became Herman of Herman's Hermits.

As this article points out, there really was a Paul Revere Dick who founded the group with Mark.

The person reporting Paul Revere's death in several stories caught my eye: Roger Hart, named as the group's Manager.

Yes, the one and same Roger Hart who "discovered" the group in 1962:
KISN DJ Roger Hart, who was producing teen dances, was looking for a band to hire. Hart had a casual conversation with a bank teller who told him about a band called "Paul Revere-something". Hart obtained Revere's phone number and they met for lunch. Hart hired the band for one of his teen dances. Soon afterward, Hart became the group's personal manager. It was Hart who suggested they record "Louie Louie", for which Hart paid them about $50, producing the song and placing it on his Sandē label, ultimately attracting the attention of Columbia Records. I did not realize that "The Raiders" sold a TON of music between '65-'68. Only the Beatles and the Stones outsold them for that run.

They had only ONE, number ONE "Indian Reservation".

Some station in Arizona played it continuously for an entire weekend when it was a hit. Not sure if they played any commercials, News, etc.

Would have been fun to be a jock doing a "That Was, Here Is". How many ways can you say that without sounding voice tracked?
