Twice today, we've had automated phone calls from municipal candidates in North Van City encouraging us to get out and vote for them at the polls... and we don't even live in North Van City!

Isn't it still illegal for candidates to solicit votes on election day?

I don't know if this will answer your question or not. While watching SHAW election programming just after 7:30 pm a comment was made that Susan Anton was campaigning by phone today.... We've had automated messages in our city only from those campaigning here.

Aside from the highly questionable tactic of soliciting votes by telephone on polling day... at least two people running for City Council at 14th and Lonsdale and using that same polling day telephone tactic don't seem to have any clue at all that there are two different sets of voters in North Van... those in North Van City and those in North Van District.

Of course it's not. Why do you think they have set up phone lines for people to call for rides to the polls.
They can't advertise on election day as far as I can remember or solicit in front of a polling place, but other than that, it has always been fair game game.
Here's another way to avoid the calls... get call display.
Don't blame the candidates if the North Vans can't get their acts together.
