Relief for Haiti from radio listeners

Fans of two radio stations here in BC have donated more than $900,000 for earthquake victims in Haiti. Red FM president Kulwinder Sanghera told CTV News he has been amazed by the generosity of his listeners, including an eight-year-old girl who donated her piggy bank and a working senior couple who gave their wages to the relief effort. "We have very heart-touching stories," Sanghera said. "It's quite emotional." Red (for "Reflecting Ethnic Diversity") 93.1 FM went on the air in 2006 and bills itself as Metro Vancouver's No.1 South Asian Radio Station. Another Surrey based radio station, Radio India, KVRI 1600 AM has reportedly raised $500,000. If the funds are matched by the federal government, as Ottawa has promised, the amount of combined aid will double to $1.8 million from those two radio outlets alone.
