Does a google search work the same everywhere

Does a google search work the same everywhere

I had a long chat with radiofan today over an issue I need help with. Some one on this board suggested I was
in the bottle because I could not find the same thing on google he had.

When I asked what words to put in the google search he said the "name of the book"

Well I did that before this came to a head with no luck and the same on my trys tonite.

I have cut a pix of google and the search and find no result at the top as suggested. I have also gone through
ten further pages of the same search with no luck.

Here is the question - does google work differently in each market. When you live in Vancouver and go to a Frisco website you might find Vancouver google ads. Maybe the techies can figure it out but I cannot access the snippets on either of my computers on two different broadband systems.

Google uses literally tens of thousands of computers to index the world wide web on a continuous basis.

Search results will vary widely by time of day and search terms used.

How Google determines page ranking has spawned a very large industry of expert consultants (enter "SEO" -- Search Engine Optimization -- into a Google search and you'll get nearly 200 million theories as to how they do it).

Like they say on TV, "Your own mileage may vary."

The search results are the same everywhere in Canada as all IP addresses from Canada are forced to google.ca even if you type in google.com. The text ads are targeted by location and search queries.

Agreed, and that takes into consideration the 10-15% Telec quotient, which won't effect the end result.

Yes, Jack. A book. The thread in question involves a book.

Your graphic shows you are on 'Web'. We're talking about a book. You find books under 'Books.' Click on 'Books' and enter the name of the book (in quotes) in the search box.

If you can't find the book after that, I can't help you. It's the first entry.

I hope this is the end of it and we can move on.

Put the name "in quotes" as suggested. That usually works, but not always if its not available as a whole.

"Searching" is a fine art in itself.
Much easier these days but in the very early years of the WWW, I remember taking a day course on "how to search" and what commands to use to do some pretty deep mining of the then much smaller web.
With Google and other search engines, just keep trying variations of your search and cut down on the results by specifying several search terms at once.
The more specific you get, the fewer results will come up.
But wading through a million posts can be frustrating.
